Fortis in brief

Confronted with the international financial crisis, Fortis has undergone a complete metamorphosis. Its Dutch banking and insurance activities have been acquired by the Dutch State. The other banking activities have been acquired by the Belgian State and will ultimately – together with the Belgian insurance activities – be acquired by BNP Paribas. Due to the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Brussels on 12 December 2008, the closing of the transaction with BNP Paribas has been postponed.

Fortis holding (Fortis SA/NV and Fortis N.V.) include only (1) AG Insurance, (2) Fortis Insurance International and (3) financial assets and liabilities of various financing vehicles. The international insurance activities (Fortis Insurance International) are located in UK, France, Hong Kong, Luxembourg (Non-Life), Germany, Turkey, Russia, and Ukraine, and in joint ventures in Luxembourg (Life), Portugal, China, Malaysia, India and Thailand. Fortis holding is therefore no longer involved in any banking activities.
